Scrapbook

Little Braids

Today I am going to work on my Seattle post, but I may break it down into a couple because my ramblings my get a little of track and therefore lead to a ridiculously long post! But in the meantime, I have a scrapbook layout to share. This is based off the sketch on the Cosmo Cricket blog last week.

As you can tell by my fabulous pictures, my daughter adores it when I do her hair. (That was sarcasm) It never lasts longer than 10 minutes and shes undoing what I've done, so a lot of the times I snap pictures. Picture her throwing a fit, me getting camera, coaxing her to let me just take a good picture, then you can take down your hair. *sigh* Someday she will keep it in, right?

Celeste's Purple Room

I decided to make a page about Celeste's purple room. She had told us that it was "all she ever wanted in her whole life." I thought it would be cute to preserve that little memory. She's getting older, and I bet a purple room isn't all she wants now, and I bet her room won't always be purple, or filled with dolls and fairy's and flowers. So why not scrap the everyday moments, like what a little girls bedroom looks like.

Project Monday- Vanishing Point

 Picking Flower in Montana

These photos of our walk in Montana during last year's vacation immediately came to mind when I read this weeks Project Monday post over at Bubble Gum Life. When I think of a vanishing point, I think of a viewers eye being drawn in to the photograph by a line that disappears at a point in the image. I think these photos accomplish that effect. I also created a layout using one of my favorite photos from these shots. It's my favorite because the look on my daughters face is so totally her. She is such a dramatic little girl, with everything being so very intense, even picking flowers!

We Love Art

Okay, how about one more? I came across a sketch site at http://creativescrappers.blogspot.com/ and decided I could fit one more layout in for today, then off to make some dinner. Stuffed bell peppers. Yummy!

Cool Waters

I can't wait for summertime to come! One of the things I miss most about summer is our little day trips up to Tahoe. It's one of the most beautiful places I've seen, and with it being right in my backyard, I can't explain what took me so long to go there! Our parents never took us as children, so it wasn't something that came to mind whenever I thought about going to the lake.
My best friend moved to Seattle last year and she said the she would really miss going to Tahoe, so I decided to go. And fell in love. Every opportunity I got, we drove up to Tahoe to spend the day lounging on the warm sandy beaches and swimming in the cool clear water. They are very restrictive and environmental, so the water is gorgeous!
After our trip to Montana last year, I also fell in love with hiking. I had done a couple hikes, but when my cousin showed us around on a couple hikes in Montana, I realized what  I was doing was glorified walking in the desert. So I picked up a book detailing some trails around Tahoe, and we tried a couple, and it was amazing.
I always pick hikes that are about 3 miles (6 round trip) and to some sort of a destination, like a waterfall or small mountain lake. And every time, during the last half mile, I'm wondering if we're going the right way, this seems like it's taking forever, etc! So I probably will keep it at that length this summer too!

After spending a few hours pulling weeds I decided to do a scrap book layout about our day trips to Tahoe. I chose the background paper because the yellow-orange flowers contrasted well with the blue in my photograph, which is of my daughter Celeste wading into the cool waters of Lake Tahoe.

I Scrapped My Sketchbook + a Layout

Yep, I thought it would be fun to scrap the cover of my sketchbook for the sketchbook project . I tried to keep it as flat as possible, since it will be going through many hands across many states. But I also wanted to make it stand out a bit. I would hate for all this effort and art to go unnoticed once I send it away, out on its own in the world. I used Sassafras Papers and stickers, Autumn Leaves stamps, A Galaxy writer to doodle in white, a Fiskars punch, DCWV adhesive ribbon, K & co. rub on, Heidi grace rubon, October Afternoon folder tab,  embroidery floss and masking tape. The photo was a photo I took with my web cam. I'm thinking I might also scrap a couple pages inside the sketchbook also, since scrap booking is one of my all time favorite expressions of art!

Next up is a quick little layout I did. I've been in a bit of a "Red" mood lately, and I love the reds in this little photo shoot I did with Celeste. The papers are Graphic 45, the felt posie is made by me, the lace is vintage (thrifted), the ticket Jenni Bowlin, Rub ons  by BoBunny and Autumn Leaves, Transparency by Best Creation Inc. jewels by K & Co. and letters by American Crafts. Hope your having a lovely weekend!  -XO. K.

Project Monday + Scrap

This weeks Project Monday inspiration is "celebrate". We definitely had our plates full of celebration this weekend! On Friday was a friends daughters birthday party, a costume party since her birthday is actually on Halloween. You would think a child would tire of a holiday birthday, but this little girl loves it, and she has a costume party every year! Halloween is also Daved's daughters birthday...

Then Saturday we took Celeste to a Trick or Treat event in downtown Reno's Riverwalk district. I love all those little shops :)

On Sunday we had another birthday party in the afternoon. Then Celeste was off to her Dad's for some more Trick or Treating. And I celebrated with some much anticipated scrap time with my new goodies!

Journaling says: I want to be a photographer, I want to be an artist, I want to be a wonderful mom. I want to be happy and successful. I want to always realize the beauty that is my life, my world & never give up, never let it go & I do. I want to be unabashedly, irrevocably me.

This page speaks to my current frustrations of right now. I feel like I haven't reached the point in my life I thought I'd be at by now. I feel like I want to grow up and be me! I'm tired of my lame retail job and I really just want to be everything I've always aspired to be, and I want to be that person now.

Learning Impulse & Art of Thrift

I am not really an impulsive person by nature. I am a planner, a long time thinker, a gatherer of opinion. I usually mull over whatever my decision is for a while, then I start talking to friends and family about it, then I might make a decision after that.
So I did something totally impulsive on Friday, and got some new tattoos. I was inspired (of course) by someone else's tattoos of words with personal meaning, and that night I went home and thought about what words have personal meaning in my life? For me, right now, those words are "inspire beauty".
As an artist, you want to be an inspiration to the world around you, you want to bring some of you own personal beauty into it. I am finished with all my core curriculum at school, and it is art from here on out, but I find my creativity stifled. I wanted something to remind me everyday to look at the world with a creative eye, and to never forget what my passion is no matter how hard things get.

So while we are on the subject of being impulsive, I also did a sort of "impulsive" scrapbook page yesterday. I just printed a recent picture I took and just put it together with the first things I grabbed (instead of laying it all out, moving it to different positions, switching out patterns, etc.) It took me about twenty minutes, and I am pleased with the result. Hey, if I could be this quick every time I scrap, maybe I might actually get some more pages done.

Supplies Used: Paper-Cosmo Cricket, Stickers- Sassafrass, October Afternoon (labels) and KI Memories (lovely), Rubons- K & Co., Plastic Flowers- Heidi Grace, Letters- Sandy Lion, Other- Simplicity Sewing pattern, Catalog page, Doily, Receipt, Staples

Guess my next impulse move should be to clean my house....-XO K.

A Scrappy Saturday!

Wanted to share a layout I did, inspired by the coming fall season, about Halloween last year. Celeste is so girly, I just love how her costumes are always fun and sweet. She never goes for scary! I, on the other hand, was always a witch or a vampire, and once a black cat. Celeste has been an angel, a lady bug, and the latest, snow princess. Can't wait to see what she picks for this years costume!
Journaling reads: A snow princess, the perfect costume for Celeste! So girly & sweet, with a pinch of Halloween mischief.

Supplies:
Pattern paper- Cosmo Cricket
Cardstock- The Paper Company
Borders- My Mind's Eye
Journaling spot- Making Memories
Letter stickers- Studio Calico
Rub on- Lil Davis Designs and Heidi Swapp
Jewels- K & Company
Other- Tag from World Market purchase, Posie handmade with vintage dictionary paper, felt, lace, and a button. Cream colored flower from the dollar store.

At First Glance

Last year for vacation we went to Southern California to visit my Dad. Celeste had never seen the ocean, so I was so excited to be there to show it to her for the first time. I myself am from Southern California initially so I have no "first time at ocean" memory, it's always been a part of life! So upon arriving the first thing I did was take her to the beach. When we got out of the car, the familiar smell of the Redondo Beach boardwalk filled the air.
"Ugh. It stinks." Celeste says.
"That's the smell of the ocean. And all the fresh fish cookin' in the restaurants." I responded.
We walked around the pier so she could get a good view of the ocean. She stood at the railing and just asked, "Can we go swim in it?"
Silly little girl, definitely made a first ocean memory for me! Hopefully her too. I did this layout today to preserve this memory, already over a year old and soon to be fleeting.
Today is her sixth birthday, she is with her dad, and I'm am being nostalgic. -XO

What I Realized

Oh and PS. On the food note, I did a layout (finally, I know!) about Celeste baking! The Journaling reads: You are one happy baker. You love to measure the sugar, pour in the vanilla & ask "can I lick the beater?" almost constantly, it is, after all, your favorite part of baking!

It's true, she never stops, from the moment the first ingredient hits the bowl, "can I lick it yet?"

Recently Around our Humble Abode

Not sure if I mentioned it in an earlier post or not but we painted Celeste's room purple. She said it's all shes ever wanted in her whole life!
And I also made a butterfly mobile for her room, love how cute it turned out!

And lastly, a recent layout

Until next time-XO

30 Minute Challenge

I guess you could say I gave myself my own little challenge today. I have wanted to do a layout since the spring semester ended, and I had about thirty minutes to do it in, so I went for it! I'm happy with how it turned out, but I was noticing that the last three layouts I've done have been on Kraft! I think I need to diversify...-XO

Another Quick V-day Project

Our Fun Valentines

Celeste and I had a lot of fun making these little Valentine crafts a couple weeks ago. I have been meaning to post the pics for a while, so here they are!

The Weekend

I'm a bit sick this weekend, so I'm feelin' up to a whole lotta nothin'! I took some pictures to play around with my new camera, I love it! I also did a couple of scrapbook pages, the "What I Love About You" is this weeks sketch at sketchinspirations.ning.com. School starts on Monday, so I hope I will have the time to keep up with her weekly sketches over there... otherwise I will stockpile my photos for a huge spring break scrap-a-thon, lol! -XO

Real Quick...

Just wanted to share a layout I did late last night... I've really got to hurry up and scrap all these baby pics, the memories are so fleeting, how sad?!

So Sweet

Today miss Celeste was so sweet. We went out for lunch, and *gasp* she was so good! Afterwards we went to the thrift store. We were looking through the children's books and I read a sign that said kids ages 3-12 can receive a free book. So I told Celeste she could pick out a book and she was so absolutely excited, it was too cute! She was skipping out of the store saying, "I get a free book 'cuz I'm a kid"!

So Tired

I have been really tired lately, but I wanted to share my latest layout really quick! I have been working out everyday and school starts soon, so I think I may be a little overwhelmed!-XO

Finally some time to create

Yesterday, I finally got some time to do a couple of scrapbook pages. I love how the Summer Rain Layout turned out. I love how the colors play off her bathing suit so perfectly, but most of all I love the memories it evokes. Here in the desert, rain is a rarity, and a warm summer rain is utter delight. Nothing is as fun as dancing in the rain, and nothing cools you off in the middle of summer like just standing in the rain letting yourself get soaked. I remember absolutely loving this as a kid, and I am so happy Celeste got to experience it this past summer.

Lately Celeste has been throwing fits about "not looking cute" when she wears certain clothes. I thought it was funny she was so concerned about her appearance at such a young age. Then, this morning, I remembered how I was similar at her age. I used to wear certain clothes because they made me feel pretty, like I only liked socks with lace ruffles on them, or how I would only wear T-shirts with leggings. So, I've decided to smile, take pictures, and let her experiment. Unless we have somewhere nice to go, of course ;)-XO

Decorate

Oh no, the weekends over already!? I can't believe how fast it was. I had a lazy day yesterday, which was nice. We took down our autumn decor and put up the tree and most of the Christmas stuff. Celeste will be so excited to decorate the tree tomorrow, I will post pics. Here is the layout I did for this week at 52 sketches, sorry about the poor photo quality... this was last years tree decorating- XO

Finished

Well, the painting is finished, just need to wait for it to dry so we can move all the furniture back and hang everything back on the walls. It's like moving all over again! Here is my layout for sketch #46 at 52sketches52weeks.ning.com:

Tomorrow the new sketch posts, I am so excited! I got my order of scrapbook supplies from two peas today. I was like a kid on Christmas opening that box! It so nice to have fresh product to work with, maybe it will help get me out of my slump... XO

New Additions

I've also completed sketch 45 for this weeks sketch at 52sketches52weeks.ning.com , these are pics from when Celeste was about 1 and my Nana came to visit! Unitl next time -XO

House work...Complete!

Well, we have accomplished some much needed repairs on the house today, and some fun stuff too! We had a second washer and dryer set we sold on craigs list to finance our ventures. D. finished the garage door opener today, yay! Who'd have thought something most of us take for granted could be so exciting? No more scraping windows or warming up the car when I have to go to work at 4:30 a.m., yay! I finished a page yesterday, it is and old baby pic of Celeste, love that big ol' happy toothless smile as she swings on her auquarium swing!

I also planted some bulbs, Astible and Peony. It was nice to get down and dirty in the garden, its been years...I have had container gardens, but nothing quite compares to a yard. I put up our autumn/thanksgiving decorations, I'll try to post pics later. Until then, heres one of Celeste, wondering why I'm bothing her while she is trying to have her Italian soda! -XO
