July Birch Box Review

So, it feels like it took forever for my July Birchbox to come in. But it was the 10 days from shipment. I was getting pretty ancy, since two other ladies in my circle got theirs first! But now that I've had a chance to try all my goodies, I'd love to share my reviews....

For the month of July Birchbox teamed up with Glamour to create a box about the five senses.
For my "see it" samples I received boscia green tea blotting linens and Eyeko skinny liquid eyeliner. I love the opportunity to try all natural products, so I was really excited about the blotting linens. They work well, and I find it and extremely useful addition to my purse! The are a semi-translucent brown paper, so it makes the oil absorption difficult to witness, but if you hold them up to the light just right, you can see they've done their job. I also prefer these to powdering my face throughout the day, less time consuming and less makeup caking by the end of the day. The Eyeko eyeliner makes the box! I use black liquid eyeliner everyday, I love me some cat eye. I had no idea it came in pen form. It turns out, this is a much easier application method for me. It also does not clump up my eyelashes like the liner brush and pot I usually use do. I received a full size liner in this months box, thats a $15 value!

For my "hear it" sample I received a set of neon pink and green headphones. For my "taste it" sample I received a Larabar. It was bananas foster flavor and oh so yummy. I am currently doing a cleanse, which is sugar free, gluten free, etc. but I was still able to eat this bar without it ruining my cleanse, so it's good healthy stuff that is oh so yummy! My "smell it" sample was a vial of Oscar de la Renta live in love perfume. This scent is a little heavier and mature than what I usually go for, I may be passing this one along to someone else. And finally, for my "touch it" sample I received the tiniest smidge of Jouer luminizing moisture tint. I feel slightly offended that I should be able to adequately sample a moisturizer that comes in a tube smaller than my pinky finger. But I tried it. It's tint is not even enough coverage to even out the most perfect of skin tones, it pretty much just absorbs into your skin. But the glimmer is very pretty, I would recommend it for the decolletage, shoulders and arms.

Pink and Black

I used to not be a big fan of pink. It took me yeeears to finally bring some pink pieces into my wardrobe. I'm over that now, I am comfortable in pink now, and I love the combo of pink and black. So, I picked up this cute little vintage skirt at Junkee's a while back, and have finally decided to wear it. I really love the texture of the floral pattern. I kept everything else black so my skirt was the standout piece.
We've started work on our second project in my Illustrator course. We are to pick a state (Montana, yay!), choose two state parks and design a logo for each and a poster for one. The poster is supposed to mimick 1920's-1930's travel posters. Sounds super fun and right up my alley right? The instructor didn't like my logos. Lame. Now it's back to the drawing board. I've seen it happen, but it's never happened to me. But I guess it's a lesson learned as to how it will be out there in industry, there will be clients who don't like what you present to them and you will have to think longer and harder about your design concepts. So that's what I'm going to go do now....

Skunkboy's Summer Hair Idea

As usual, whenever I get on the computer I find myself blog hopping and checking out Pinterest rather than doing what I logged on to do. And more often than not, as soon as the screen lights up, I actually forget what I logged on to do. Eh. But last week, during one of those moments, I ran across this super cuter summer hair how-to on the Skunkboy Creatures blog. I've tried it twice now, it's so adorable, and so so easy too. An added bonus, I get a ton of compliments and people think I spent a lot of time on my hair.
Instead of lace or ribbon, I decided to use a leather strap in my braid. I didn't think it would blend in so well, but it's barely noticeable. It's definitely something fun you can experiment with, different colors, materials and different sized braids too.

A Sweet Vintage Dress

I just wanted to share this pretty vintage number I picked up a couple weeks ago.  I really love the fit, it hugs the curves and flows very well. The only problem I ran into was it was a little snug after cheesecake! I also noticed a couple seams that need mending, but it is in pretty darn good shape. It has a very soft silky feel, but it has no tags so I'm not exactly sure what the material is. XO -K.

Happy Monday

I wore my wellies for the first time today! It was still cool and damp when I left the house at just before 5 am.  But when I left work it was in the mid sixties with the sun shining. And I'm in my beanie, sweater and wellies. Oh how I love the Nevada weather.
So this weekends photography inspiration was "comfy and cozy". What makes you comfy and cozy? For me it's waking up late, staying in my PJ's and baking. This weekend Celeste and I finally made the pumpkin scones I've been craving. They turned out super delicious. I found the recipe here.
I made them yesterday and they're gone! It was so comfy, having fresh baked scones, hot coffee and sitting at my table watching the rain fall in the backyard...

I've been slacking on taking pictures as I continue my way through my anti jeans adventure, even though I have worn a lot of outfits sans jeans lately, this is the only pic I remembered to take from last week!
